The short answer
When selling a house during a divorce, the most important first question is whether both parties are in agreement about selling. If everyone is on the same page, the process can be relatively smooth and straightforward. If one person wants to keep the home and the other wants to sell, the situation is more complex. In that case, work with your divorce attorneys first to negotiate and reach a settlement on the property and other marital assets.
Once the decision to sell has been agreed upon, that's when you bring in the realtor. At that point we can discuss pricing, timing, marketing strategy, and all the details specific to your property. I always recommend starting with your divorce attorney if there is any disagreement — the realtor becomes involved once both parties have agreed to move forward and are cooperating on the sale.
